Mr P got in touch with us in October. He inherited a home 18 months previously – after his mother had died. When we first spoke, he was finding it difficult to deal with the loss of his mother, and he felt overwhelmed by all the things he needed to do to sort out the home.
We met Mr P at the house, and following the visit we presented all the options that were available to him in an Empty Homes Doctor report.
After taking some time to think things through, he decided that he would like to sell the house. Our next job was to break down what needed to be done into manageable steps – as we were aware that he still felt quite overwhelmed by what needed to be done.
We arranged for a local charity to clear the house, and we also arranged for a gardener to tidy the back garden, which had become overgrown.
We obtained quotes from local estate agents and Mr P decided to sell with Manning Stainton, who have a strong presence in the area.
The house sold within a month of going on the market. We remained involved – acting as an intermediary between the agent and Mr P – to ensure that he was happy with how things were progressing.
"Yet again, many thanks for your help with this, and as I have said before, I could never have done it without you."
We also secured discounted services from local solicitors Advantage Property Lawyers and energy assessment organisation LME Move, reducing the sale costs to Mr P by hundreds of pounds.
After 18 months empty, the house was sold within 2 months of Mr P getting in touch with us.
